It&#8217;s an excerpt from our printed newsletter that went out last week and should be in your mailbox shortly, if you&#8217;re on our mailing list.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lovethelibrary.hyperarts.com\">The Santa Clara City Library Foundation and Friends<\/a>, working with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sclibrary.org\">Library<\/a>, received a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.library.ca.gov\">California State Library<\/a> grant for $89,500 in May 2022. This year-long grant is providing teens an internship experience at the Library and a stipend for their service. There will be two cohorts, or groups, of interns. Each will have an opportunity to help with summer reading and host a Homework Help Center <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.santaclarausd.org\">Santa Clara Unified School District<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first teen cohort supported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sclibrary.org\">Santa Clara City Library<\/a> staff in <a href=\"https:\/\/lovethelibrary.hyperarts.com\/programs\/#tab2\">Summer Reading<\/a> family programming this summer. Over the summer, fourteen teen interns started working at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sclibrary.org\/about-us\/locations-and-hours#central\">Central Park Library<\/a> for a six-week term. During the six weeks, teen interns participated in weekly leadership trainings like:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">professional communication,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">resume and cover letter building,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">merchandising in the library, and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">financial literacy led by <a href=\"https:\/\/kpcu.com\">KeyPoint Credit Union<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The summer season ended with a Teen Leadership Summit where our teens shared a presentation about the skills they gained. The second cohort of teens, who will start in the fall, also joined the Summit. All the teens participated in a training led by the Office of Education titled:\u00a0 \u201cBuilding Relationship with Kids in a Learning Environment.\u201d The day ended with the teens tie dyeing t-shirts and collaborating in a relay race.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their help during the Summer Reading program was invaluable.
